Pitbull Newsletter 02/09/2010

Welcome to Thunder by the Beach presented by Teamsters Canada, Local 879! and a special
welcome to the Nitro cars, Pro Mods, and Quick 32 and all the wonderful spectators.
This will be the last 2 points days for the Thunder series and Junior racers. So every round point is
crucial to all competitors. There are some tight battles for points this year. In Top, Andrew Stirk currently
holds #1 spot but is very closely followed by Mike Munroe and the team of Nick & Brad Atkinson and
you can never rule out Will Steckly who is only 6 points behind the leader. In Mod, Steve Doornbosch
has a slight lead over Rob Holden with Andrew Stirk lurking in the wings. As a matter of fact, all top 10
racers in the Mod class are within striking distance of making some significant gains in the points. This
one is a very tight race. The street class has seen Maddy Box holding onto her lead, which she has had
for most of the season. However, Dan Morgan is gaining ground on her. Beverly Demers is running a
close third in this class. Joe Crosby has sewn up the first spot in Bike/Sled with 20 points but the rest of
the field are all running close in points so we won’t know until the end how the rest of the competitors
will finish. Congratulations to Joe Crosby.

Welcome to Earl Hardy Trucking Big Rig Nationals. Saturday features the Thunder Series races including Junior and some testing and tuning for some of the trucks. The truck races will take place on Sunday. As well, welcome back to the ONDR group who are having a fun day of racing on Saturday.
As most of our regular racers know, our 2 time Sportsman of the Year honouree, Mr. John Doornbosch, had heart surgery this past Thursday. Another regular went around with a get well card and accepted donations to help the Doornbosch`s offset some of the expenses.

Wasn’t that a party!!! Stratford and area businesses and event coordinators sure have it right. There were
so many race vehicles and spectators, it reminded us of a National Event. Even after the growth in the
number of competitors, it is still really cool that everyone gets a pay envelope at the top end after first
round of eliminations. Thank you to all the sponsors and people responsible for putting on such a
successful event. It sure was a treat to see so many spectators in the stands. The GBM staff all worked
very hard and we want to thank them. With a special Hats off to the maintenance staff for keeping the
grounds spotless all weekend long and in particular to Mike and Joanne who helped clean up the
transmission oil on the main road on Sunday.

Never a dull moment at GBM!
This past weekend was Thunder Series racing including Junior dragsters and Extreme 32.
Mother Nature had other plans and after a major downpour on Saturday afternoon, the race had to
be called and because the first round was not completed for each class, there were no points
awarded and rain checks were handed out. Finally at about 7pm, it quit raining and it turned into
a nice night for sitting around with our friends bench racing.

>What a month this has been!!! It has been so jam packed we haven’t even had a Thunder Series race since the beginning of the month. The results are listed on the back. On July 9-11 ONDR took over the track with a good turnout of some awesome nostalgia cars. The racing was fun. The Hemi Super Stockers put on a good show and the car show was jam packed. The following weekend was the Nitro Jam Nationals. The new format was great. It seemed like there was more racing to watch because the show cars ran 2 complete races over the 2 days. Despite the wild downpour that hit GBM on Saturday night complete with hail, the rest of the event went without a hitch. Congratulations to all our GBM racers who did well. Winners included Will Steckly who not only won the No Box ET class, he also won the overall ET class defeating Charles Chase who won in the Box ET class. Also congratulations to our Jr Dragster winners, Ryan Atkinson and Joshua VanAmelsvoort. We would also like to congratulate some other GBM racers who were runner up in their respective classes. Rob Gray in Top Sportsman, Andrew Stirk in Super Rod, Doug Box in Stock Eliminator, Box ET - Benny Smith and Jr 13-17 - Karlee Achilles. Way to go everyone!
